Easy Strawberry Spritzer

In Brunch, Desserts & Drinks by sarawalkenbach2 Comments

If you like afternoon porch sipping, Sunday brunching, or drinking on a Tuesday, then spritzers are for you. There are lots of times this Strawberry Spritzer cocktail should be making a cameo. It’s easy, refreshing, and lightened up for you.

Spritzer is a German word for a tall, chilled drink served with white wine and seltzer water. Cutting the alcohol with seltzer lightens up this spritz cocktail.

Strawberry Spritzer ingredients are fresh strawberries, white wine, and seltzer.
You only need 3 ingredients for this light and refreshing cocktail.

Why I Like Strawberry Spritzers

I like to cocktail like the next mom in her 40s, but man, I just can’t hang anymore. If I have 2 glasses of wine, I don’t sleep well and won’t feel 100% the next day. No thanks.

Spritzers cut the alcohol in half, yet I’m still drinking out of a fun glass and getting a little tipsy. Win win! Plus, the sweet strawberry puree goes so well with dry or sweet wine.

Strawberry Spritzer Ingredients

Strawberries

‘Tis the season for strawberries! Actually, in the USA every season is good for strawberries. We are truly spoiled with our access to all fruits and vegetables throughout the year.

Ripe strawberries bring the sweetness to this cocktail.

The riper the better for this strawberry cocktail.

White Wine or Prosecco

Any white wine will work in this Strawberry Spritzer recipe. From dry to sweet, anything in between is delicious with strawberries.

Spritzers are typically made with white wine. However, if you like a little more bubble, go for a Strawberry Prosecco Cocktail. Prosecco is a fruity Italian sparkling wine.

Or make this a mocktail by using non-alcoholic white wine.

If you like Prosecco, you’ll love this Cranberry Spritzer.

Bubbly, refreshing, and delicious. All the things you want in a lightened up cocktail.

Seltzer

Crisp plain no-flavor seltzer keeps this spritzer cocktail classic. However, if you have flavored seltzers on hand, they will work too. Lemon or berry seltzer flavors pair great with strawberry.

How to Make a Spritzer

Spritzers are as easy as pouring in the wine and adding seltzer. To get that strawberry flavor in this cocktail, whiz the strawberries up in a blender.

I use my small smoothie blender to do this. Depending how many you are making, throw a few cut-up strawberries in the blender per drink, add a little bit of the wine, and blend.

Once the strawberry puree is blended:

  1. Add ice to the glass.
  2. Pour in some strawberry puree.
  3. Fill half the glass with wine.
  4. Top it with seltzer.

If you’re feeling extra, it’s super easy to gussy this cocktail up with a little garnish. Slice a strawberry cross wise and make a cut half-way up on one side. Slide the cut side on to the glass rim. Enjoy!

What to Serve with Spritzers

Not that you need to serve anything with this cocktail, but if you’re having friends over or getting a little fancy on Friday, here are a few options:

Can frozen strawberries be used in this recipe?

Yes! Add a little wine or water (not prosecco) to the blender when pureeing so it doesn’t become a paste.

Can I make a spritzer non-alcoholic?

Yes. Use non-alcoholic wine or white grape juice.
