Healthy Queso Dip Recipe – Made with Greek Yogurt
Whether it be a big sports game on TV, Cinco de Mayo, or just Tuesday, it’s always good to have an easy dip recipe in your back pocket. This is it! Creamy and delicious, this Healthy Queso Dip Recipe only has 3 ingredients and it’s ready in 5 minutes.
Some “cheese” that is shelf stable, comes in a long orange brick and used often in rotel dip isn’t really cheese at all. It’s actually a food product that is 1 molecule away from plastic. Ick! Let’s feed ourselves, family, and friends something better with this dip.
Healthy Queso Ingredients
You can still get a creamy cheesy delicious dip without the “pasteurized process cheese product” and only 3 ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt has been consumed since 100 BC by the Greeks. Something that has been around since before chemicals and manufactured preservatives has gotta be good for you, right? Indeed! Here are a few health benefits according to Healthline’s article, 6 Fantastic Health Benefits of Greek Yogurt, written by Jillian Kubala, MS, RD:
- High in Protein, making us feel fuller, longer.
- Rich in Essential Vitamins and Minerals: B12, Selenium, & Zinc.
- Supports the Bones with being high in Calcium.
Greek yogurt can easily be swapped out for sour cream in recipes. It’s slightly thicker and makes a healthy alternate.

Cream Cheese
Mild, creamy, and delicious. Cream Cheese melts perfectly in this dip. It’s high in Vitamin A and low in lactose. However, cream cheese is high in fat and calories, so like all cheeses, needs to be consumed in moderation. Only a half a block is used for this dip recipe.
Cream cheese does come in low fat and fat free options. However, have you ever looked at the ingredient list on low or fat free products? There are many added ingredients to make it taste not fat free. Full fat is the best with cream cheese. It tastes better, so you won’t eat the dip and think you need something else after. And it has less ingredients, making our bodies feel better.

505 Flame Roasted Green Chili
If you like spicy salsas and haven’t tried 505 Flame Roasted Green Chili, you need to STAT. It’s my all-time favorite salsa. I use it on tacos, dressing on salads, on top of eggs. It’s the perfect flavor.
Flame Roasted Green Chili is smoky, warm, and has a kick that will make you want to put this on everything (guilty). If you don’t like it spicy, use your favorite salsa. Go with a salsa verde (green salsa) if possible. The red varieties will make your Greek Yogurt Queso dip pink.
Mix In Options
This healthy queso dip is perfectly delicious with just these 3 ingredients. However, if you want to step it up a few notches, try any of these mix ins:
- Tajin
- Lime Juice & Cilantro
- Sauteed Peppers
- Shredded Rotisserie Chicken
- Browned Sausage or Chorizo
- Diced Tomato & Onion

How to Make Healthy Queso
Make it on the stove top. Put it in the crock pot. Go easy with the microwave. It’s as simple as melting the cream cheese and Greek yogurt together.
My go to for this is the microwave, unless I’m making a vat of it for a party. In that case I’ll bust out a crock pot.
Put the 3 ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and cook for 2 minutes. Stir. Heat in 1-minute intervals until cream cheese has completely melted.
If using a crock pot set it on warm. If it gets too hot too fast the cream cheese will curdle. Same goes for the stove top. Start slow and low (that is the tempo… Beastie Boys, anyone?).
Once it’s nice and warm, it’s time to enjoy!
What to Serve with Greek Yogurt Queso
Tortilla chips and queso go together like s’mores and campfires. It’s a must to have chips! However, we need to eat healthier these days, right? Add these to your serving plate too for added nutrition:
Mini Bell Peppers
Throw some mini peppers into the mix as well. Just cut off the top, half them and knock out the seeds. Easy.
Potato Wedges
Toss some potato wedges (russet, yukon gold, or sweet) into the air fryer with a little olive oil and salt. Crisp up and do the dip with this delicious healthy queso.
Carrots
Peel and cut in half for a flat space good for dipping. Carrot with this queso balances out the heat with their slight sweetness.
Broccoli
Did your mom smother your broccoli with cheese as a kid? She did that so you would eat your veggies. Nothing wrong in doing that as the adult too.
It’s best to make the day of. If only using the 3 ingredients it calls for, it will be good the next day too. However, if adding lime, or a more acidic salsa than 505, the acid in the lime will cause the cheese to curdle by the next day.
Baked potatoes. Chipotle bowls. Tacos. Burritos. Enchiladas. Tex-Mex Salad. Chili. Salsa Verde Chicken Soup. Mixed into Rice. Mashed Potatoes. Mac & Cheese. Corn on the Cob.
Yes, since there is dairy product in the dip. Once you are finished eating, store the leftover dip in the refrigerator.
